Seong II Jeong, Ph.D.

Professional Experience

Dr. Seong Il Jeong is a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registered patent attorney and intellectual property professional who has provided cost-effective and timely solutions across the full spectrum of patent and trademark services, from application filing and prosecution to registration and post-registration management. He also offers counsel on patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses, patent validity opinions, and IP monetization strategies including licensing and commercialization.

For over 14 years, he has represented clients in drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technology areas, with a proven track record of successfully securing numerous patents. His primary areas of practice include, but are not limited to, mechanical devices and systems, electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems, manufacturing, alternative energy, consumer products, telecommunications, and business methods. During law school, he also served as a summer clerk at Kim & Chang, one of the largest law firms in South Korea.

Prior to becoming a U.S. patent attorney, Dr. Jeong accumulated extensive technical knowledge and hands-on experience over more than 15 years as a researcher and engineer. He held various positions at multiple institutions, including Senior Research Engineer at Samsung Aerospace Industries Co., Ltd. (now Hanwha Aerospace Co., Ltd.); Commissioned Researcher at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST); Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Texas A&M University; National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral Research Associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center; Senior Research Associate at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT); and Senior Researcher and Adjunct Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and was a recipient of the 2004 Innovation and Creativity Prize Paper Award presented by the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Electrostatic Processes Committee.

Michael (Minchul) Yang, Ph.D.

Professional Experience

Dr. Yang is a registered patent attorney with more than 8 years of work experience as a Patent Examiner at the USPTO. He prosecuted more than 500 patent applications in the fields of semiconductor devices, nanotechnology, alternative energy, displays (LEDs and OLEDs), batteries, advanced organic/inorganic materials, and biosensors. He authored Examiner Answers for Appeals to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB, previously Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences). He advised the management board on patent examination/search strategy. He trained patent examiners on patent law, claim interpretation, prior art search, office action writing, and relevant science/technology. He is a recipient of Master-Rating Certificate from the USPTO.

Prior to joining the USPTO, he was a postdoctoral fellow at University of California, Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). His area of research includes non-linear laser physics, surface chemistry, molecular electronics, heterogeneous catalysis, and organic semiconductors. He is an author or coauthor of 33 research publications on a broad range of science and technology. He is a recipient of John G. Miller Award for the Best PhD Thesis in the Department of Chemistry, University of Pennsylvania, 2002.

Kyom Bae

Mr. Bae concentrates his practice in the areas of Corporate Law, Business and Real Estate Transactions, Estate Planning, and Taxes. He is dedicated to providing innovative solutions to safeguard business owners’ and investors’ interests for exploring their entrepreneurship. Mr. Bae’s scope of work includes: restructuring clients’ businesses and assets, closing of real estate properties, and devising estate plans to meet each client’s specific needs.

With his legal background in business law firm, corporation, and state court, as well as non-legal engagement in marketing, Mr. Bae has developed a better understanding of the needs of business clients and various approaches to their legal matters.
